Becoming a mum or Dad at a young age may or may not be something that you had thought about before now. Either way it is a big life changing event and can be very challenging. Up to this you may have just worried about what to wear, school or work, or where you were going at the weekend. You may have just got to grips with yourself as a teenager and now you might be concerned about how ready you are to look after your baby. It might even feel scary. These feelings are understandable and people of all ages worry about how they will cope with pregnancy and beyond. It can be helpful sometimes to talk to someone you trust and feel comfortable to reassure you and give you some support.
Maybe you could
- Ask you doctor or clinic any questions you might have about the baby and the pregnancy, no question is silly or unimportant if it is causing you to worry.
- try to tell people that you would like to talk about other things, or hear their news, if you get annoyed always being asked questions about the baby
- rest a little more as tiredness can make things hard to cope with.
- remember that if your feelings are all over the place now, that they will settle down again after the baby is born
- talk with your teachers or boss, if school or work is becoming difficult for you.
- if you and the baby's other parent are together, try to spend some time doing fun things together.
- think about a plan for after the baby is born, Trying to be clear about some small things may help you cope with any pressure you are feeling about becoming a mum.
- let your partner, family and friends know if you are feeling a bit off form, you might not have the energy to do things or be interested in talking about things that you would have done before.
