
We can’t say otherwise, smoking is harmful for you and your baby. There are probably lots of different reasons why you smoke, a habit, being nervous, it looks cool, stops you eating sweets, or maybe you just started for no particular reason. You and your baby are two good reasons to give up smoking. Here are some blooming great reasons not to smoke when you are pregnant:
Quitting is the best single thing you can do for the health of your new baby- You increase your chances of a healthy full term pregnancy and having a healthy baby
- You will breathe more easily and suffer less from morning sickness
- You will have more vitamins and nutrients for yours and your baby’s health
- Your breast milk will be free of chemicals and poisons
- You will not be exposing your baby to over 4,000 chemicals with every puff
- Your energy levels will start to rise as the carbon monoxide leaves your body
- And you will have more money to spend on you and your baby.
Tips for Quitting
- Choose a day: that suits you. For some people it is easier during the week while for others the weekend is better
- Prepare in advance: get everything ready. Make a plan and get rid of cigarettes and ashtrays
- Get help: ask your partner and family for support. You can also contact your local Smoking Resource Officer (contact number below).
- Rewards: give yourself a healthy reward at the end of the first day, week and month, you deserve it!
- Think ahead: plan alternatives for difficult situations; don’t wait for them to happen
- One day at a time: congratulate yourself at the end of each day that you stay smoke free
- Remember it is never too late to stop

Don't put up with other people's smoke.
If you don't smoke or have given up, don't let anyone else smoke around you. Other people's smoke can still be harmful to you and your baby, so tell them to puff off somewhere else!! It is also very important that nobody smokes near your baby once he/she is born
